Every decision for our wedding is a difficult one. For every little detail we have to decide whether to get something normal or to get something with 'Katy and Fig' flair. The problem with deciding to get something to fit our personalities is that it usually takes a lot longer to find and the price tag is usually a bit more steep. On top of that, to find something over the top enough for us that wouldn't be tacky for a

Take toasting flutes for example, we could get the clear, elegant ones from Macy's(and hopefully have someone buy them off our registry for us) or we can buy ones like the colorful ones we found online that are nearly $50 more expensive. So for each and every detail we have to weigh the pros and cons, and let me tell you- it gets tiring! Oh, the joy!

As time goes on I'm pretty confident that you'll come across little gems that will be perfect for both the asthetics and your budget. But those things usually don't come easily out of trying to fish them out. All of our wedding/party planning favs have been products of plain, dumb luck, stumbling on them out of the blue.
We had kind of the opposite problem. Since we were getting married on a basically a backyard bbq budget :-P we had to pick and choose where we wanted to add our little touches of elegance -- you know, without having to pay for them! If I looked in the mainstream magazines or catalogs, I was always disappointed. I don't know where you've been looking so far, but I'd bet you'd probably have better luck looking outside the typical wedding merchandise to find your funky little trinkets and stuff, then maybe making them more "wedding-y" yourself, if necessary.
Thats pretty much exactly what we're doing. Not much of our little details are technically 'wedding related', but they fit in our wedding JUST fine!
I'm so glad you guys are putting a little flair into the wedding. I can't wait to see how it all turns out. After your guys' engagement party I kept saying to Spencer, "GOD how freaking adorable were those baskets on the tables -- and the little cards with the ants!!"

You can buy champagne glasses for a $1 each at the $ store and then buy the paint and do your own to look like the bottom one or if you like the top one, buy the engraving paste. Both the paint and paste are relatively cheap when you use the 40% off coupons you get in the paper. I actually made 100 engraved wine glasses with a couple's wedding date a few years back. It works quite well. Hope that possibly helps :)
