There's no place like home...

It's hard to believe it - but in a matter of 2 months, it will be a full year since Bryan and I bought our first house. It often feels like we've slacked off and haven't been able to get much done, but in reality, we've completed a good bit. Lately, though, with planning/saving for the wedding and with my mom living with us, work has definitely slowed down if not stopped.

I've been itching to make more progress so this weekend after we got home from New York, Bryan and I finally got the motivation to work on one room that we had started on before. It was a room that we had set aside to be used for my oldest nephew Xzairre that spends the night often when my sister has to work. It has so often worked as storage for junk that didn't have its own place yet that the door was usually closed and the room was wasted. This weekend we finished painting the room and decorated it for occupance. We still have a few things to do such as purchase blinds, replace the receptacles/ light switches and their covers, hang more pictures/shelves, and take the sink vanity from in front of the closet and put it in the bathroom. At least now we can walk by the room and smile when we look in instead of closing the door in disgust. An added plus - he spent the night this weekend and was able to sleep is his own room!

One room at a time. It will get done eventually.

This is what the room looked like when we bought the house. It was known as the red room.

The room now. The walls are painted a flat orange that reminds me of Kraft mac'n'cheese and you can barely see them on the picture, but we painted stripes in the high gloss of the same color. It turned out very well although taping for all of the stripes was a huge pain in the ass!
